Less than a week after he was officially out for the upcoming season, the Indianapolis Star confirms this morning's rumors: Indiana coach Terry Hoeppner was pronounced dead at 6:50 a.m. in a Bloomington Hospital. He had checked in Friday after undergoing surgery for brain cancer twice in the last year and a half.
The Detroit News was unwittingly prescient this morning before the news of the coach's death: Hoeppner Will Be Missed. He is the second active Big Ten coach in as many years to succumb to a serious health problem, though Hoeppner's demise comes as less of a surprise than that of his Miami, Ohio predecessor, Randy Walker, at Northwestern last summer.
A high point: after last year's win over Michigan State.
Condolences to Indiana and the Hoeppner family.
