Incredible but true: Louisiana-Monroe 34, Arkansas 31 in overtime, following a) The exit of Razorback quarterback Tyler Wilson to an "above the shoulder injury" at the end of the second quarter, and b) A 21-point rally by ULM in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. This would have never happened under Bobby Petrino, no, but for once, Nick Saban can sympathize. The win marks UL-Monroe's first ever over a ranked team, the Sun Belt's first ever over a team ranked in the top ten and the biggest upset of the day, which is no small honor on this one. Arkansas, the Screaming Sheep has seen your future, and he has something to say.
Predictably, it's not going so well today for Southern Utah in Berkeley, but they still have a prayer, and it was answered at the end of the first half on a strong Catch of the Year of the Week entry by Cameron Marshall. Now just keep on doing that, and we may have ourselves a game.
From the sound of it, Miami (Ohio) of Ohio alum/Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan was informed literally seconds before his alma mater kicked off against Ohio State Saturday that he was up for the pregame pep talk, and just decided to go for it. How hard can it be? The guy gives speeches for a living like all day, every day. And aside from completely mixing up the circumstances of Ohio State's winning (not losing) streak against in-state competition, and completely lacking in discernible passion, I'd say he nailed it. Just listen to the pent-up intensity waiting to explode from that room when he's finished. The Red Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead before eventually losing, 56-10.
Notre Dame is crushing Navy in vintage fashion in Ireland, but the best performance of the day belonged to this sublime, jig-dancing interloper, who is apparently the same sublime interloper who interrupted a trophy presentation with a series of drunken bird calls earlier this year at the U.S. Open. From the dance itself to Gary Danielson's reaction to the unmoved security guard, this could not have unfolded more perfectly.
I do not have the faintest idea what is going on in this video, or why it exists. But I cannot overstate how happy I am that it does.
Countdown to launch.
