I must admit, I expected Florida to mop the floor with the Georgia Bulldogs.
Instead, I was surprised to find that the Bulldogs took the lead in the first quarter and held on to it for the entire game to come out with a 17-9 victory over the favored Gators. Now most would say that Georgia vs Florida rivalry games could always go either way, especially since Georgia came out on top in last year's match as well, but I took the position that this years Gator team was far improved from last year's disappointing season and would be fired up to get revenge from 2011's 20-24 loss.
Of course Florida's six turnovers played a handy role in their defeat, but I always give credit where due as Georgia did what they had to do to get the W. Georgia did commit three turnovers themselves in the first half, but were able to come out and go through the second half turnover free, while Florida committed three of their six total turnovers.
Do I think Florida would have won if they didn't have six turnovers? Probably. But good defenses find ways to create turnovers and it's only fair to give credit to the Bulldogs' defense for showing up big. Georgia's offense didn't was really able to get things going so it had to rely on the defense and the defense was able to handle business.
So considering all the times I've said that Georgia shouldn't even be ranked, I hereby apologize to the Georgia football program for underestimating them.
