College Football Question: Saturday Night Football
Saturday Night Football is fast becoming one of the biggest events in the world of sports. It has become an event where some of the best and biggest universities in the United States can showcase their school and their team. Below I have posted the 12 prime time games that will occur on Saturday Night this fall:
- August 30: Michigan State at California (split-national)
- August 30: Alabama vs. Clemson at Georgia Dome, Atlanta (split-national)
- September 13: Ohio State at Southern California
- September 20: Georgia at Arizona State
- September 27: Illinois at Penn State (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2)
- October 4: Ohio State at Wisconsin (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2)
- October 4: Oregon at Southern California (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2)
- October 25: Penn State at Ohio State (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2)
- October 25: Notre Dame at Washington (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2)
- November 8: California at Southern California
- November 29: Oklahoma at Oklahoma State (May be optioned to earlier start time) (split-national)
- November 29: Notre Dame at Southern California (May be optioned to ESPN or ESPN2) (split-national)
The Big 12 Championship game takes place the following week on December 6th. Out of all of those games, which is the most exciting/the game that you are most likely to watch?

Thanks for posting this.
I love Saturday Night Football. Michigan State at Cal will certainly get my attention as I want to see how MSU does in their second year. They are going to have to break in a ton of offensive talent, though.
Doesn’t Illinois at Missouri start at 8 PM as well?
Ohio State at USC will be titanic.
Georgia at ASU could be interesting. I honestly don’t see how Georgia can lose, but this is the farthest they have traveled in a number of years so there’s a shot, I guess.
Illinois at Penn State depends on how well those two teams play prior to that meeting. If those two teams are undefeated going into that it should be interesting.
Ohio State at Wisconsin is intriguing. Again, both of those teams could be undefeated going into that game. Camp Randall Stadium is a tough environment at night too.
Penn State at Ohio State should be fun.
The rest hold little interest for me. I would like to see how Jake Locker plays against Notre Dame, though.

I will be attending
Alabama vs. Clemson, so that holds the most interest for me.
Regarding games where I’m neutral…
I’d have to say tOSU vs. USC and UGA vs. Arizona State…but mainly because Alabama faces Georgia the week after.
I LOVE night games….at least attendance-wise. Way better than baking in sun. On TV though, I miss a bunch of the night games because I’m not going to sit home and watch TV instead of going out and doing something. I will DVR though and watch later.

Love Saturday night football
Since I’m an ASU fan, the ASU-UGA game is of course tops on my list. It’ll be interesting to see if the Devils can step up their game against the cream of the crop, something they struggled with last year against Oregon, USC and Texas. The atmosphere should be electric and I’m hoping it’ll buoy the home team - obviously that sort of atmosphere won’t be much different for UGA, but many of the big games that ASU played in at home the last several years have been in the afternoon, which took alot out of the crowd that had to bake in 105+ degree heat - as well as the team which simply didn’t have the depth, especially on defense, to hang in there for 4 quarters.
Out of the non-ASU games on the list—I’m gonna say Ohio State vs. USC and Oregon vs. USC. The struggle between those 2 big time programs should be a blast and is an early qualification game for the national title race. UO-SC will depend on whether or not Oregon has found consistency with their offense. They were the best team in the country until Dennis Dixon went down, and if they hadn’t gone into such an emotional funk after his injury (the loss at arizona was simply inexcuseable, even though the rats seem to pull one of those out of their ass like that every year) they still probably could have played in the Rose Bowl. If they can be anywhere near as explosive on offense as they were last year, the Trojans could have a fight on their hands.

Saturday Night Football Rules
I have season tickets to Penn State games, and the night games are by far my favorite. I’m going to be at the Illinois vs. Penn State and Penn State at Wisconsin games this year. I may be a bit of a goober for PSU, but I think the PSU at Wisconsin game will be exciting. However, I don’t think the Illinois game will be a super marquee event.
I am most looking forward to Ohio State at USC. Clearly these two programs have been powerhouses in recent years, so it should be fun to watch. Georgia vs. Arizona State should also be a great matchup.
